I am pleased to announce my intent to nominate Stacy Dean to serve as Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Ms. Dean currently serves as the Vice President for Food Assistance Policy at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. In this role, she is a national leader on issues related to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program), child nutrition programs, and other anti-hunger and nutrition programs. She has played a key role in shaping and advocating for policies to improve access to food and nutrition assistance for low-income families and individuals.
Ms. Dean has more than two decades of experience in public policy and program administration. Prior to joining the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, she served as the Director of the Food Stamp Program at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In this role, she oversaw the implementation of the 2008 Farm Bill, which included major reforms to the SNAP program. She also served as the Acting Deputy Administrator for the Food and Nutrition Service, where she oversaw the administration of USDA’s child nutrition, WIC, and other food and nutrition assistance programs.
