Agriculture is the backbone of India’s economy and plays a significant role in the country’s development. The sector employs around 54% of India’s workforce and contributed to 18% of the country’s GDP in 2016-17. The sector is expected to grow at a rate of 4.1% in the current financial year.

Government initiatives such as Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana have been launched to boost agricultural productivity and growth. In addition, the government is working on a new agricultural policy which will focus on increasing farmers’ incomes and ensuring food security.

The private sector also has a crucial role to play in developing the agriculture sector. by investing in research and development, and adopting new technologies. Private companies can also help by providing farmers with access to credit, insurance, and markets.

If the agricultural sector is to develop and grow, it is important that all stakeholders work together to create an enabling environment. By doing so, India can ensure that its farmers are productive and prosperous, and that the country is able to achieve its goal of doubling farmers’ incomes by 2022.
