Crop cultivation is one of the main types of agriculture practised in India. The major crops include cereals like rice, wheat, maize, pearl millet and sorghum; pulses like chickpeas, lentils and mung beans; oilseeds like groundnut, rapeseed and soybean; and spices like chilli, turmeric and ginger. Several farmers also produce cash crops like sugarcane, cotton and jute. According to experts, India is self-sufficient in the production of all major food grains.<\/p>\n

Animal husbandry is another major agriculture practised in India. Livestock are reared for milk, meat, eggs, wool, hides and other by-products. Dairy farming is a major component of this practice and is an important source of livelihood for the rural population.
